Re:Gadgets Related and Feedback..

well, one thing that i've heard a few times about the psp is that it tends to overheat, and i guess i can believe that la. it's quite a high performance gadget, and certainly needs a heat sink (wonder if i got the term right). so, because it overheats quite easily, one cannot play with it for too long. other than that, one can generally say that a gaming system is very much dependent on the library of games for it. the system may have the latest pieces of hardware, but if there is a lack of games or the games just plain suck, it'll go the way of the dodo before long. i think that's what's happening to the nintendo ds.

pricewise, i once asked a shop casually how much it was selling a few months back, when i spotted a unit in the window display. rm800, without bargaining. but my brother in law expressed his doubts, saying that it could probably be something our local 'experts' put together, based on schematics and available parts. i'm not too sure about this though.

but a friend said that it's made him ultra lazy, because upon purchasing it, everything is done with him lying down on the sofa. movies, games, music(?).

so, there.

Re:Gadgets Related and Feedback..

i'll give you one game that's an awesome game to play together: poy poy. it's for the psx, although it's playable on the ps2 as well, of course (almost all psx games are playable on the ps2, if not all of them). i remember spending many hours in front of the tv with other malaysians at one of the on-campus dorm suites playing this totally addictive and laugh-out-loud game. boleh main empat orang sekali! it becomes more fun when there's collusion between the players hehe.

unfortunately, i heard that poy poy 2 isn't as good as the first one.

Poy poy? What a name. My son now plays computer game. He is only 4. Then again I wouldn't want to spoil him with all these games. Entah la..masa mula mula tu we were thinking to buy the Psp for him when mobile. Now, we thought about it and decided not to spoil him too much. Takut hook on it. Susah nanti nak hantar dai gi pre-school and all. heheheh

Now, hubby is drooling on the ipod video and the soon P990 that will be out sometime first quarter 2006. Review says excellent phone. As for me, I'm waiting to see the N91 and O2 Exec. Heh heh heh...

Re:Gadgets Related and Feedback..

the ipod video? have you considered any of the archos portable media/video players? or the creative zen vision? i was this close to getting myself a pvp recently (read: just before raya), kononnya on the premise of being able to free up my memory card for the dslr la. then, bila fikir fikir balik, i've never yet filled it up in one go (498 shots when the card is empty, on medium size fine compression setting). well, maybe i'll have to reconsider, if i decide to shoot in RAW mode.

or i could just get a few more memory cards at a significantly lower cost to solve this 'problem'.

in any case, the one thing that the ipod has going for it would be the appearance and dimensions la. otherwise, i'd suggest looking at other models and brands. try cnet.com to read more extensively on the different makes and models of portable media players available in the market.

prices sighted at low yat last week: ipod video for rm1,566 and creative zen vision for rm1,700 approximately.

o2 exec?

Ahh...Apple has it's way in getting people to drool over their gadget designs. Anyway, Ipod Video yg you say RM1566 is 30GB. The 60GB is RM2099. Just went to ipod centre and started to drool over the ipod video and nano. Errr... both hubby and I went home with a big grin from ear to ear!!

Well we almost got ourselves PSP then cancel plan. So, we have been doing our hunting high and low for the best gadget to fit our requirements and both of us are such "hantu gadgets". ZEN "features" somehow doesn't gives us the "wow" and "drool" factor.

/crazy for gadget woman

Re:Gadgets Related and Feedback..

yeah, i'll definitely give apple that: their designs sure are eye candy. especially considering that the ipod video is much thinner than its predecessors. 22% thinner, i think (if only it was that easy to say about ourselves hehe - "hey, i'm now 36% thinner! how about you?").

but are you sure the zen vision doesn't give you the "wow" and "drool" factor when it comes to features? as far as i know, it's got an awesome 3.7" screen as compared to ipod video's 2.5", an FM tuner, on-the-spot (voice) recording, built-in speaker, onboard compact flash cardreader... these are all the features that the ipod video lacks. i'd say these are pretty impressive features, and well worth the extra rm200 you have to fork out for the creative zen vision.

but then again, maybe features aren't everything. usability should be considered as well. it's strange though, that cnet.com doesn't consider the ipod video as a portable video player. rather, it is categorized under mp3 players, alongside its other ipod brethren. i wonder when they made the change, because when i was reading up on this category of electronic products, the ipod video was classified under portable video players. the website does mention in its review that the ipod video is first and foremost a music player though.
