n-Vi integrated CD/DVD player/processor/amplifier

Combining DVD, home theatre and genuine high-end hi-fi music reproduction has suddenly become simple. The n-Vi delivers everything you need in one box: DVD and CD player, AV Processor, audio pre-amplifier and five-channel audio power amplifier. And each element expresses everything we know about making true to life music and video in the home.

n-Vi is available now with an optional FM/DAB radio module, and a video scaler module including an external video input will be available in spring 2006. Surround sound modes include Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II. (more)

Amplifier: High performance Tripath Class-T® 5-channel amplifier (50W 8Ω and 90W 4Ω )

How much is that Naim in the window?

Psst, FK, how much damage would one of those set me back? :)

Why they call Naim fans

the Naimed .. or Naimees. it's a terminal disease and people who get infected rarely recover.

In its basic form n-Vi is £2,900 something; then you add the DAB module or something takes it past £3K - dunno how much the video scaler module will cost, but a good DVDO IScan video scaler is about US$3K

someone remarked on Audio Asylum that the name should've been pri-Ci but thats obviously someone who hasn't come across Naim equipment.

I'm not really a Naim fan, but my interest is in the fact that they are one of the well known British brands and that they have started using digital amplification. Not only that .. they are using Tripath which is the same (well, Naim's implementation has more power) chip that made the US$30 Sonic Impact T-Amp so famous.

When NAD and Marantz start using digital amps, it'll signal the end of analog amplification (just like Nikon going fully digital) - there'll still be some just like tubes, but a niche|vintage product.

Naim N-Vi vs Arcam AVP700 & P1000

I am currently using Lexicon DC1 (Pro-logic only) and ADA (Audio Design Associate) PTM650 50 watt amp. B&W floor standing 704 speakers, B&W HTM center speaker and B&W 601 rear speakers.

I am considering to upgrade my processor and amp. I am not sure should I consider Naim N-Vi DVD/Processor/Amp or Arcam AVP700 and P1000. Both cost about the same. Naim is 3-in-1 while Arcam is separate which is suppose to be better.

I have audited both, I feel for music Naim seems to sound better while Home Theater, Arcam is better. Not too sure whether my audition is right.

Could anyone there give me some advice.

Thank you

Rgds,

Ian

Naim N-Vi vs Arcam AVP700 & P1000

Ian,

I'd go for the Arcam, if only for the fact that the Naim is a 3-in-1 - Also, I think Arcam also has more power, and separate kit had a higher chance of sounding better

that having said n-vi is convenient and if you have a small(ish) listening area 50pc might be more than enough. Also, Tripath (use a couple of t-amps myself) sounds great
